Kent vs Surrey 'B' Team Report

|
Dr O writes After a poor display at home last month the Surrey B Team travelled to Chatham where captain Kevin O’Connor was hoping the National Champions could put on a display to make them worthy of the name.
Previous trips to take on the Kent B Team on their home turf had proved that it was never an easy place to get a win, but the Surrey B Team seemed well up for this match following an upbeat pre-match team talk and were determined to take the chat out of the Chatham massive.
After filling out two team sheets incorrectly, captain O’Connor finally got the game under way and Surrey turned a 6-5 first quarter lead into a 14-8 lead at the halfway stage.
But the Kent B Team refused to lie down and fought back into the match with a 7-4 victory in the third quarter to leave the scores 18-15 in Surrey’s favour.
The final quarter was also a tight affair but Surrey won it 6-5 to take the match 24-20.
Steve Johnson and Billy Donovan both played well to recover from break and dishes against them, while newcomer Neil Callingham continued to look very solid against good opposition.
Dave Jones was the Man of the Match after another 4/4, which takes his Surrey statistics to an impressive 13/16 for the season.
The season’s biggest test comes at the next match when the National Champions play host to the title-chasing London B Team, whose all-star line-up are seeking to claim their first Region Seven B Team title since 1994.
The Surrey B Team, however, will be aiming to keep the cockney trophy shelf bare for yet another year…
