On May 4-6 at Pool Sharks in Las Vegas, Brit former EP player Darren "Dynamite" Appleton will face Dennis "The Hatchetman" Hatch in a race to 100 over three days in the notorious "Pit" where many historic action matches have taken place over the years. Both have put up $20K, winner takes all. It is nice to see a fella like Appleton get up off his ar$e and actually use his talent by taking the fight to where to the money is. Don't know him at all, seen a couple of his interviews on YouTube, seems like a decent fella, so good luck to the bloke. Wasn't this whole 9-ball/10-ball episode of his career initially forced upon him by an EPA ban? Anyways blah, for those interested, there is a thread about the match on AZBilliards forums here... http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=137124[ This message was edited by: OneTrueWarrior on 2009-04-03 14:50 ]

I know Darren a bit from my time editing 'another pool website' and I've got a lot of time for him. When he made the switch to US pool he went to the States and the Philipines for longish periods to play in events over there and play a few money games and learn his trade. Success on the Euro Tour and the UK nineball Tour swiftly followed. Then at tenball he won a proper world title in a truly international game against world-class opposition and he beat one of the top players in the world in the final too. And now he's playing one of the top money players in the US. That's some rise through the ranks and it's been fuelled by putting the hours in on the practice table. Whatever your opinions on Darren, you can't argue with the fact that he's one of the few players who regularly puts his money where his mouth is. And he's also utterly dedicated to being the best and he has a ridiculous work ethic to become that. For me those factors alone deserve big respect. ----------------- Ferrum ferro acuitur.
